I have a new birthday bargain to share with readers.
Chandlers, a long-running seafood restaurant in downtown Victoria, offers a substantial birthday discount to those who join its Chandlers Club. Sign up online and you become eligible for a 50% discount on a “feast for two” in the month of your birthday.
Simply give your name and e-mail address to your server to claim your gift. The current birthday bargain is the $99.99 seafood feast (yours for $50). The offer includes two cups of seafood chowder (a creamy concoction made with Quadra Island clams, wild Coho salmon and halibut), a platter of two lobster tails, prawns, scallops, and calamari, vegetables and starch for two, and two desserts (tiramisu and crème brûlée are possible options).
I’ve only dined once at Chandlers and the experience was, I regret to say, less than stellar. The trout I ordered was rather dry, as if it had been cooked from frozen. For the price (most entrees range upward from $25), it was disappointing.
That said, my birthday is coming up this May, and I think I’ll give Chandlers another chance.

Might want to make a note that Chandlers is closed during the “winter” and those who have a birthday during those months will not get to take advantage of this great offer. Dang. Guess I’ll have to celebrate my February birthday elsewhere!
