Cheapest, Hottest, Biggest, Best Chicken Wings in Victoria, BC: Specials Every Day of the Week!

Make no mistake, there IS a “wing scene” in our city. I found two Facebook sites dedicated to the finger-lickin’ bar snacks in Victoria: Wednesday Wing Nights! and Chicken Wing Enthusiasts of Victoria. These people are serious about getting the best cluck for their buck.

While you can order these popular pub-style appetizers in bars and restaurants all over town, wing lovers seek out those places where price, quality, and quantity converge to create the ultimate “destination wings”—the kind you’ll drive across Victoria to eat. Many businesses offer their best wing prices on “Wing Wednesdays,” but by no means all.

In my research, four Victoria pubs were most often mentioned as “wing destinations”: 1550 Fifteen Fifty’s Restaurant, Four Mile Bar & Grill, Maude Hunter’s Pub, and Gorge Pointe Pub. Now, before you start flinging wings at me, I’m not saying these four spots have the BEST wings. What constitutes the perfect chicken snack for one may not be the ultimate nibble for the next. It’s the same with trying to rate the hottest wings. The only really indisputable aspect is the price.

And so, I have arranged all recommended eateries below by: a) which weekday(s) they offer cheap wings, and, b) price per wing.

Thanks to everyone who wrote to Scrimp or Splurge via the website, Facebook, or Twitter to share their top places for wings in Victoria. The guide below is by no means comprehensive, and I would LOVE your feedback on this post. Let me know if I overlooked YOUR favourite wings!

  • Restaurant owners: I’d be very happy to update your information if you change your wing specials in the future. Just let me know!
  • Wing lovers: Please confirm details with your restaurant of choice before dining to ensure the wing-night special is still current.

  • Great Article. You should add Country Rose in Colwood to the list. $.30 Wings and they are the best and Biggest Wings in the West Shore!!!

  • anitabean

Thanks for the great tip, Michael! What day or days of the week does Country Rose Pub have its Wing Night?

  • mcycle-nut

If there isn’t a wing night, I don’t bother. I don’t pay retail for wings. What are they now, 9, 10 bucks for a plate? Please, I think not. The best wings are the ones called, I believe, “jalapeno hot” at the Monkey Tree pub. They do have a two-for-one appy night, which I can’t remember off the top of my head.

  • anitabean

Jalapeno hot flavoured wings at Monkey Tree Pub…ahhhhh, I can just imagine the big frosty mug of cold beer I’ll need to cool my lips while eating them. I’ll have to get in touch with Monkey Tree for more details; several readers have said good things about their wings. (Rhyme alert!)

  • Arod

The lakes grillhouse in the Howard Johnson on the highway #17, has the best cluck for your buck. The wings are quite large and $0.35 everyday until 6pm, and all night on Mondays. It’s a little more out of your way but I don’t think you’ll be disapointed.

  • anitabean

Try the blue moon at the Gorge point pub

  • anitabean

Thanks for your tip, Matt. Are the “blue moon” wings at the Gorge Pointe Pub made with blue cheese? If so, YUMMY!

Curious: How often do you go out for chicken wings?

Thanks for following ScrimporSplurge.ca and sharing your insights!

  • Matt

Almost every Wednesday or so I go out for wings. They have blue cheese and hot sauce mixed together at the Gorge. The Upper Deck has one similar but not as good called hot blue. I look forward to reading more on your wing deals as my buddies and I are always looking for a good deal. P.S. I will write notes next time I go out for wings.
    Cheers

Yessssss! I am SO going to these places. I just moved here from out east and other than the really expensive wings at the Strath on darts night, I’ve ordered from Pizza Hut *hangs head in shame*. You have saved me! Bless you!

  • anitabean

Ha-ha! You don’t have to hang your head in shame, Renee. It’s hard finding the best places when you’re a newbie in town. I’m delighted that you have discovered Scrimp or Splurge, and I hope my posts continue to ease your transition from East to West. The 17 Mile House Pub in Sooke has the best wings ever, hands down. My favorite is the Hell’s honey flavour, which is their hottest wing rolled in honey garlic sauce. The wings there are HUGE. At Crossroads Bar & Grill in Colwood, I could eat about 50 of their little wings, but at the 17 Mile I’d be lucky if I could finish half that.

  • anitabean

Thanks for the terrific tip on wings, Wesley! Readers really appreciate this kind of personal recommendation.

  • Kyle

An update on Ross Bay Pub… Sadly, they’ve raised the prices on their wings on Wednesdays, so it’s now $5 for roughly a dozen. But the wings are still great!

  • Kyle

Additional update: My Bar & Grill wings are 30 cent wings. And the web link is broken. They have a facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/mybarandgrill?sk=info

  • Thanks SO much for your helpful updates, Kyle. VERY much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Anita

  • Joanne

Does anyone know of wings that are not deep fried in heavy batter? Everyone is changing their wings over to be heavily battered with almost no sauce. You get 90% batter before you find the chicken. I’m trying to find places that carry the old wings. They were not battered, but were laden with hot sauce. If anyone knows where to still get those, can they please post and please tell me as every place I go now they’ve switched over. Thanks!

  • Excellent question, Joanne!

I hope some of our Scrimp or Splurge readers can point you in the right direction, as I don’t have any specific information on battered vs non-battered wings.

    Cheers,

    Anita

I honestly cannot believe that no one has mentioned “Mary’s Blue Moon Cafe” located by the airport.
I have been to my fair share of locations and had my top locations as “Gorge Point” and others that have been mentioned but my new found best location is Mary’s.
Monday nights is the “Wing Night” day and they are well priced and large- great tasting wings.
I challenge others to try them and write your review.

  • Thanks for this great tip, Daniel. Your recommendation is the first I’ve heard for the wings at Mary’s, but there are many who swear by the big breakfast plates at this cafe near the airport.
    Cheers,
    Anita

just on a business trip from Vancouver…been looking for a site like this FOREVER. Just told my girlfriend I had to bookmark it! Going to the Flying Otter right now (Wedn) to try them out. Can’t wait for my next trips to try out all the other recommendations. Thanks for the suggestions above!

Being a new resident of Victoria, I’ve been searching for cheap and meaty wings for a while now. This article was really useful! I’ve personally been to Maude Hunter’s Pub and Four Mile Bar & Grill so far. I was actually very disappointed by Maude Hunter’s wings. They’re quite small and $0.45 each, where lower prices are available elsewhere. I’ve also found the waitresses there to be perpetually on the grumpy side. My final gripe about Maude Hunter’s is that the sauce for the honey garlic wings tastes like plastic.

As for Four Mile, I went during early December and was blown away by the elegant festive decorations adorning the restaurant. Nice lighting, tablecloths, candles, holly, a fireplace, etc. Whereas Maude Hunter’s was very cramped and loud (some people do like that), Four Mile had a nice conversational volume and lots of elbow room. The seats are also those cushioned booth seats, in contrast to the wooden chairs at Maude Hunter’s. As mentioned in the text of this article, the wings are a drastically lower $0.30, much lower than Maude’s. The wings themselves were huge (I guarantee they were 3x the size of Maude’s puny one-bite wings) and extremely flavourful.

Our waitress was polite and quick about getting us free refills on pop and beer. I left wanting to come back as soon as possible. In the parlour area, there’s a free billiards table, which is nice. (Although it’s placed in a tight nook that makes it a bit hard to play with a lot of people.)

    Maude Hunters Pub: 2/5
